What is Wrestling
First off, the WWE is NOT wrestling. We have no jumping off the top rope, no crazy make-up, no body slams, and no chain saw, tag team, steel cage death matches.
Nor is wrestling what some parents may remember from their youth, with the drastic weight loss requirements. Our coaches seek to enhance the safe and healthy growth and development of your young wrestlers.
WHY WRESTLE?
Wrestling prepares a person to fight the game of life.
The wrestler is the one athlete that must meet his opponent and do battle completely on his own;
No one can substitute: no time outs are possible.
He has no one to check, screen, block, or assist him in any way;
There is no one to blame for his mistakes.
When he wins, he must show quiet pride and modesty.
When he loses, the responsibility is his.
Wrestling is a true sport.
In other sports, when contact is made, they blow the whistle to stop the action;
In wrestling, when contact is made, we're just getting started.
No other sport requires more sacrifice than wrestling.
The Wrestler, through hard work and commitment, offers more of his character than can ever be explained.
It is something he carries with him through life...
Through every trial, test, and tribulation.

Wrestling is one of the oldest Olympic sports. While technically a team sport, the action is one-on-one, drawing on self-reliance, ability and character. Wrestling is safer than football (according to insurance companies), and is currently the third most popular sport among high school boys in the U.S.
Folkstyle, or scholastic, wrestling is the type practiced by the Vikings, and in most high school and collegiate competition. This style of wrestling concentrates on control, with points awarded for controlling an opponent for lengths of time longer then when under control. The wrestler on top must constantly work towards a pin while the wrestler on the bottom must continually try to escape or reverse. For some of the time both wrestlers are on their feet and attempting to take each other to the mat in order to gain control.
Parents Guide to Youth Wrestling
Perhaps the definitive guide to youth wrestling was published years ago by Bill Campbell, an avid wrestling fan and coach, and president of Young Champions, a youth wrestling organization located in Wauconda, Illinois. He can be reached via email at wcampbe@earthlink.net. Mr. Campbell's work is republished here with his permission.
